using hemlock 6x6 posts for post foundation

we are about to start a build in maine for our cabin going with the P.T post foundation for $ reasons but what do you think about hemlock for the posts instead of the P.T.

Just looking at the question of PT vs hemlock, IMO, hemlock would be a poor choice.

My reason is based on findings in Termite Resistant Wood where hemlock is lumped together with pines and spruces.

But that aside, when you compare the cost difference between 6x6 hemlock and 6c6 PT and compare that to the total cost of the materials for the cabin, the difference is very small. If it means living on the sub flooring for a while it is better to spend the money for the PT. Not just garden variety PT but foundation grade.

Anyhow that is my take on the question posed. It's much more work replacing rotted or insect devoured foundation wood than a problem in a wall or roof for example.

The other question is the suitability of pier/beam use.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.
