I want to make some special signs for the farm but the printers want a fortune.
Any ideas?

Wood, plastic or other?  There is a great place here Peter that sandblast stone signs.

You could do your own with a router and right wood.

Thanks Guys. I hadn't thought about routing my own. I have Routers. I just need the lettering jig I guess.

Peter I have a Pantograph tracer.  Never used it though.  I normally just copy the letters from a book that I have (different styles, sizes) and blow them up to the size I want and trace them onto the stock that I am going to route.

I went to Woodworkers Supply to look at a few things today.
Boy...their prices have come way down and their inventory is way up.

They had the pantograph for a dollar less than Amazon, so I bought it.
I shouldn't have gone there. Jane bought a bunch of pen parts and I HATE making those things. >:(

They had some great prices on T Tracks too, so I bought two. One just to have and one to make a camera slider.

Do you have a pen lathe?  I never have done one.  Where I trade a lot, they have bins and bins of parts and pieces and pieces parts for pen turners.  Weird woods, plastics and laminates.  I never had the guts to ask......

No, I do it on a full size lathe with a pen arbor.
I have pens in everything imaginable and Jane winds up with them all except my Deer Antler pen.
FWIW I still use my space pen to write with ;D

Peternap,

I have the Signcrafter that I bought at Woodcraft and have used it many times. It is foolproof and you don't need a plunge router, although it is  easier to use one than a fixed base.  You can pick up the jig for cheap money and it is foolproof.  Good luck.

Thanks Woodsrule!
I need foolproof. I handle a Rouer well but my artistic talents are legendary for being BAD! :-\

I try to lump the same classes together. Saves time ;D

Agreed!    c*  Lumping also helps when flock shooting! ;)

You might want to put the following at the bottom of the sign:

Please have name and address of next of kin on person before entering this property.
Bruce & Robbie
MVPA 23824

Sometimes a homemade sign has a somewhat chilling effect.
I mean, anyone can go buy a sign, but the one that gives one pause is one that the owner put forth effort to get a point across.

Yes, a routed sign should do the job, and seein' how you feel about tresspassers, I'm sure the verbiage will be a doozy, but the hand scrawled ones give out a bit of down home flavor

I'm enjoying all that I own, the moment.
