We have a few old topic references on building the typical open surface pond for fish, etc. I can't find any references to using EPDM pond liner (45 mil) in making a water storage cistern, basically a pond with a cover, for of the roof collected rainwater with an eye to using the water for vegetable garden use. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas. And, the question is complicated by the most accessible land having a slope. That would mean digging out and building an embankment on the low side.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

[cool]  We used 45 and 60 mil EPDM to line the spill containment structures at the Valdez Marine Terminal. These are very very large structures---they are built around 16 crude oil tanks, each one is 250' in diameter and each hold 510,000 barrels of crude oil (21,420,000 gallons). It is definitely tough material and heavy---how large are you planning? I would be sure and compact your embankment and run the liner up and over it to protect from erosion. Contact adhesive is used to makeup the seams--very similar to the adhesive used for formica. EPDM will give you good service for many years.

I gave this reference to my buddy who is building his underground house.  He verified it is a good place to buy from and bought his liner there.  Run by a lady in the PNW with drop points in multiple areas I believe.
