Hoo Boy.  I have no self control.   d*

Saw an ad in Craigslist late last night about a local RV dealer going out of business.  I skedaddled over there early this a.m. to check it out, thinking that I might find one or two things that I could use either for my camper or my cabin.  My wife is still speaking to me, but just barely.

Here's the breakdown:

New Suburban 16SE forced air RV heater : $15
New Suburban SF30 forced air RV heater : $25
used Suburban 6 Gallon hot water tank (pilot light) : $10
Reese friction anti sway assy : $25
Fold out steps for my trailer (don't ask how I screwed up the old ones) $20
Wooden kitchen chairs : $5 ea
New 205 75 R15 trailer tire : $15
New Drawtite 5500 digital brake controller : $30

And some misc. stuff that I'd be embarrassed to list  ::)

I was looking really, really hard for a RV oven / range top.  No luck.  My buddy bought an entire 16' new awning with all the hardware for $65.

New and used 12V Marine batteries were there for $30 each, they had three really nice generators... auto start types for $1200.  Plumbing fixtures, lots of hitch parts, new propane bottles for $15 each.

(Don... this is at an RV place on central, in between Juan Tabo and Tramway.  Check craigslist for the address... I think it was 12601 Central)

Even if you don't need it now, Frank, if there is a chance you could use it in the foreseeable future (40 years?)  then you have to get it.  Opportunity many times only knocks once.

You need land  to store your treasures on.  Personally I have a few acres of unnatural resources (collected things that may be usable in the foreseeable future).

To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk. - Thomas Edison ยท

Plumbing odds n ends   :)

Those were excellent furnace prices
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

I'm hijacking my own thread.

I just R&R'd the steps for my camper.  Why do they make campers to be disposable?

I started by checking out the mounting brackets under neath that the stairs were welded to.  A perfect fit for the new steps.  I brought out my grinder and started to remove the beads, got a hammer and chisel to break the welds, and then I noticed that the brackets were not the least bit loose.

Turns out that they were welded to the TOP of the steps, on the inside.  This was done before the floor of the trailer was installed!!!

Grrrrrr   >:(

Out comes the sawzall.  15 minutes later I had a carcass of steps laying in my driveway.

But then I had to fabricate some new brackets out of angle iron (some un-natural resources I had laying around in my RV barn).  A little drill press work, a little welding, and the steps are mounted.  But what should have been about an hour job turned into a three hour job.

I should have known.  It always takes me 3X as long to do anything as my first estimate.

I'm checking out the heaters tomorrow to make sure that they work.  I'm hoping that will be fun.  No telling when murphy shows up though.
