Great link!

Going to my location I found the map to be over 50 years old (1956). Still very interesting (roads with old names, each house was marked on the old map so it's a clear indication of growth patterns).

The topo map is at 20' increments - still very useful and in most cases still accurate.

The price is right too.
None of us are as smart as all of us.

You will find that a lot of information is missing (mines - historic stuff) from the newer maps so the old ones are my favorite.

I need to note that this link and info was brought to my attention by my friends at Kevin Kelly - Cool tools.

In case you missed it here is reference to my cabin and the Underground House book, along with my comments.

I really like to reference older maps. I have seen old roads on old maps in the local NF area that do not appear on any recent maps. Frequently the roads have been decommissioned by the forest service, but sometimes it is possible to get onto them. Sometimes you can drive quite a ways; sometimes you find a 6 inch tree in the middle of the trail. Unfortunately, with the new forest service travel management rules soon this sort of exploring in a motorized vehicle will be illegal. Maybe time to get a "you'll never catch me" stealth dirt bike.   :o   n*
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.

I agree - It belongs to the public - not the public servants.
