Homegrown Tomatoes

I posted some newer pictures of Sylvia on our website... and there's also one of my older daughter and the bass she caught with her hands (no joke... she caught him with her hands in the swimming area.)

Funny thing is that we weren't even fishing... just spending an afternoon playing in the lake.  She was really proud because a lot of times when we're fishing she doesn't have the patience to catch much, but this one swam by her and she seized the moment.  There were a bunch of little boys, in the ten to twelve age range out there swimming and they all were in awe over it, and then I heard them later talking about it to their parents and some other friends.  We didn't have any way to keep the fish till we got home (no ice chest or anything with us) so she threw him back, and all those little boys pounced trying to catch him again but they didn't have any luck.  Guess I need to start taking her noodling!

And by the way, the fishing prowess comes from my genes... on our honeymoon, DH and I went fishing.  We hadn't had much luck when I caught a huge bass.  He never even got a bite.  So, I took the bass back to our cabin and cleaned it.  Then I cooked it.  Then he ate it.   ;)  He got the best end of the deal.   Of course, the next time we went fishing, he outfished me by a long shot... I caught something like 14 sand bass and striped bass, but I quit counting his when he got to 20.  In just a few hours, we filled up two full ice chests.  When the kids are this little, I don't get too much of a chance to fish.  If/when we do go, I get to spend most of my time untangling the big girls' lines and helping rebait their hooks, etc.  I think it'll be easier with Sylvia as a baby than it was when the big girls were littler...she's so easy and such a good baby.  She'd probably nap and grin through the whole thing, because as long as we're outdoors, she's happy.

Thank you all.  She's a really good baby.  Already I can see that ornery twinkle in her eyes, though, so I'm sure as soon as she can figure out how to, she'll keep me plenty busy chasing after her.  She doesn't look  JUST ornery, but STINKING ORNERY.  I think she looks more like her daddy than either of my older girls do, but I don't know why... it isn't her eyes, but something about her smile and chin/jaw line is more like him than me.  The big girls are a lot of help with her, too.  They about smother her with attention, but thankfully her newness has worn off enough that they're more likely to let her finish a nap now.  My oldest daughter has been trying to be "helpful" with everything.  So, this morning I was still feeding the baby when she got up and she decided to make me a cup of coffee.  A few minutes later, she came in with a plastic measuring cup (she couldn't reach the coffee cups because I had the step ladder in my closet to retrieve something last night) full of instant coffee.  She had it all wrapped up in a paper towel because she didn't want to burn her hands and the cup was thin.   :)  (I taught her how to use a little hotpot when the baby was born so that she could make her own instant oatmeal if I was busy.... she has been really responsible with it so far.)  So, I had a measuring cup of coffee this morning. c*

How sweet  :)  Great that they like to help although sometimes it can be more work - but you don't want to quench that enthusiasm!

They both like to do stuff like that, but have really gone gung-ho since the baby arrived.
This morning when I got to the kitchen, there was a can of tuna that apparently fell out of the cupboard when DD tried to get the coffee.  The side was a little dented, but I'm glad it didn't hit her foot!  There was the tin with the coffee and tea in it, but where was the lid to it?  No telling.  The tin was in the floor in front of the cupboard, which was standing wide open with the drawers pulled all the way out.  The bananas were pulled over to the edge of the counter and were all twisted around where she'd tried to get one to twist loose so she could bring me something to eat, too.  Usually she does a better job of remembering to put stuff back the way it was, but maybe she was in a hurry or something.

Bumping this thread for Red because he is the one who asked me to see new baby pictures and I'm not sure he ever saw the thread...

He probably got lost working at the cabin.

HT I did see the pictures one morning but was in a rush and was going to reply that evening.  You know with kids there is something that always comes up and didn't get around to it.  Had a new litter of kitten and the wife thought the dog got them.  Turned out she just kidnapped 3 of them for her own. Put them in her dog house.  Life is one big distraction.  She is a cute baby. She sure has grown in that little bit of time.  I imagine the girls are really enjoying their sister.  Any jealousy on their part?  Now mom's affection is divided a little thiner.

Homegrown Tomatoes

No, doesn't seem to be a lot of jealousy, but then of course, she isn't big enough to take their toys or scribble in their coloring books yet, either... Right now, they're just really proud of her and have to tell everyone all about her.  My oldest drives me nuts because she is all over her kissing and hugging on her to the point the baby looks like she'd love to punch her out.  They both want to hold her every day and if we're at the table eating and the baby stirs around in her crib, both of the big girls are off like lightening to give her a pacifier or a blanket, or try to pat her back to sleep.  The only jealousy I've really seen is that in the mornings my oldest suddenly acts like she can't do stuff for herself (she is pretty good at making her own oatmeal or cream of wheat) and wants me to do it for her instead... and of course she only wants help on the days that the baby is intent on nursing all morning!

Homegrown Tomatoes

She laughed out loud at me today.  It was pretty cute... she was babbling and cooing at me and I copied her right back and she busted up laughing.  She's been chuckling a little for a few weeks, but this was a good belly laugh.  She'll be three months old tomorrow.  She's as big as my oldest was at 6 months.

Naw, Glenn... she just thinks I'm pretty funny looking every day.  With almost everyone else, she gives them a serious look and locks eyes with them, but when she sees me, she grins really big and starts slobbering all over herself.... could it be that I just look like lunch?

glenn kangiser

I'm not gonna touch that one. d*
