I am about to start building a shed and I am looking for cheap windows.  I have looked at some sheds at Home Depot and I like the simple small windows however I can't find any windows like that in the store or anywhere else.  I am assuming they are Storm Windows or window made for the shed companies.  Anybody know of any cheap windows in North GA or East TN?

PA_Kettle gave me this link: http://www.habitat.org/env/restores.aspx

The habitat for humanity re-stores may be what you are looking for.

If you dont need a window that opens, you could just make a rough opening for a solid piece of glass - I priced a 2'x2' piece of tempered glass for about $30 from a local glass company.

Check with your local glass company that does window installs and ask them if you can have the old windows they pull out of homes on renovation jobs.  The place near me usually has stuff stacked next to their dumpster which he told me is always free for the taking.

It is hard to buy a new window that is NOT dual glazed, energy efficient and expensive.

For our 10x14 starter cabin we found a local lumber yard that had surplus wood windows from the 40's and 50's that had been used to side a chicken coop. I expect the chicken coop builder paid pennies for each one but I got them for $3 each (but had to scrape off the chicken poop :-X)

::) Hey, I got a idea I think would work.  One day recently I went down my street and at one of the homes up the street from my place a crew was there replacing all the windows.  I "thought about" scarfing up the old ones, but by the time I came around (not that much later) the crew was gone and so were the old windows.
1. I could stop when I see a crew doing a job and ask them if I can haul off the old stuff.

Or  ;D

2.  I could check with some of the local window companies before hand and ask them about hauling off the old stuff for them on some upcoming job.  I bet I might get a bite on that.... for free, or maybe DAMN cheap.  The windows being pulled out are over-unders exactly line mine put in in 1990 when the homes were built (side by side townhouses in groups of two).

We got about 3 PU loads of free glass from the local glass company - we've used a lot of it in the Underground cabin - only bought about 4 windows - and we have a LOT of windows!

Thanks for all the info.  I found two cheap windows they use in sheds at a home depot that was moving and selling eveything discounted.  They were the display models so i got a really good deal.
