I have to bring in fill to get my place up 2 ' over 100 year floodplain.  Many trucks of fill will have to come (a neighbor who was lower yet needed 60 truck loads).
My long term dream on our country Dacha setting includes a pond.  Sitting on a porch on John's 1 1/2 overlooking a 50' X 75'+ pond would be so mellow.  Anyway, I'm all excited that maybe I should rush into the pond excavating and use what soil is removed from their (sandy to ? depth) could be the fill for the homestead.
I have high ground water, got a well in with just a point.  Maybe a leaky pond cause of sand is ok with continuous feed.  Not sure what I have on lower layers though.  Read wonderful book "Earth Ponds" by Tim Matson. Damn DNR has to have their hands in it, I'm close enough to navitable waters as to need a permit.
Any "Pond Experience" out there? What are your thoughts.

I think that there is no reason not to excavate and use it for your fill.  Transportation is a major part of the expense in moving.  Rent a Bobcat and dump truck and you could do it --- unless the Bobcat might disappear in quicksand as you get to the wet part.
