I was thinking about buying a cheap sheet (9.99) of paneling and paneling my second bedroom and then priming it and painting it.  I was not happy with my taping job on the other bedroom and I figure this could be a way to finish the walls and not have to deal with mess of taping and sanding the walls.

I have seen this done when someone wants to get rid of the 70's look but don't know if I have ever seen it as a way to finish a room.

Has anyone done this? Does this sound like a good idea?

I have....It looked bad, would swell a bit on a hot day....We tore it back off and covered the ugly wall with wall liner.

Find what you love and let it kill you.

Someone on the site recently mentioned installing sheet rock but putting moldings between the sheets to avoid having to tape and mud the joints.
Personally I put on as little mud as possible, but need to do 6-8 coats.. but in the end it is just the very last coat that needs any sanding and it is more to rough it up for the paint to stick and to remove any small bumps or leftovers from the trowel.  I find this technique, while not very time efficient, avoids most if not all of the sanding and gives the nicest finish.
