I have a 16' wide cabin built on a slab with a 1' thick perimeter and want to add an 8' covered porch.

Does a PT 2x8 w/bolts epoxied to the slab sound sufficient to hold 2x6 joists 12" oc?  This may be on John's plan but that is in Maine and I am in Texas.

Any suggestions for bolt size and spacing?  I will be putting concrete posts and a cross beam under the other end of the joists.

Thanks,
Cal

It might work, but I would make the porch basically self supporting by putting another beam or other support under the house end as well.  I would still use a PT w/bolts epoxied to the slab to tie it all together.

I think you are on the right track w/ the 2x8 PT ledger. Do a couple of bolts every 3' or so.

Dan's suggestion is not a bad idea either as then both ends of the porch are supported in the same manner. Often the outside end supports on a porch are not as carefully done and they settle faster than the house leading to porches slanting away from the house.
None of us are as smart as all of us.
