Below is more images and the history of this endless project. This is a huge multi-generational effort, the type that built the great medieval cathedrals of France. Nothing quite like it being built on the planet today.

Here's another project a little closer to home. This article talks about all the steel work that is now required in tight code areas in earthquake country. This is a big complex house that would have been a head scratcher for any framer - even 50 years ago.

I brought home 3 of those $42 hold downs to work on in the morning with the drill press  :P. I used to throw $500 into the bid for hardware, not anymore... and I'm not doing anything even on the horizon of approaching what he has to do. I've visited his tools link at the bottom of the article before, some good stuff there.
