Always amuses me when people say things can't be done. If you can think of it, it has usually been done already. I think many builders, tradesmen etc are among the most conservative, change resistant occupations.

I have seen this type of door used many times now in hotels.

Thanks, Thingy.   Now we know its a "duplex door" we have been conceiving.  Seems they haven't totally worked out the lock-set, as they suggest magnets.
