Hi all,
I'm looking for some input on using 3/8" osb vs. 1/2" osb for my wall sheahing. I am going 16" o.c. with studs. One of the main reasons why I want to use 3/8" is that I can buy 4' x 9' sheets stock of the shelf rather than having to special order them in the 1/2". If I go with the 9' length, I will have no seams.

What do you guys think, is 3/8" too thin. [noidea'

I also plan to use vinyl siding i that makes a difference.

Thanks,
Keith

3/8 would be like spaghetti.  Be exceptionally careful not to overdrive.

Here in ABQ, the lumber yards carry the 1/2 stuff in 4X9.  Have you called your non-big-box yards to see what they have?

Shooter,
Thats kind of what I was thinking. I did call the Lumber yard in Springerville, AZ (near NM border) where I will be purchasing all my goods and they dont carry it, special order constitutes higher dollars, not good for me. Maybe I will just bite the bullet and go 1/2", it wont be that big of a problem, just more manual which is good for me so says my wife. :(

The only way I'd use 3/8" is to double layer it with the joints on different studs.
Just because something has been done and has not failed, doesn't mean it is good design.
