I was watching TV and turned it to Planet Green. I caught the last 10 minutes of a condo they were putting Cedar Siding on. Wish I'd seen the whole thing.

Over the sheathing, they gad installed a high tech membrane that kept water out and allowed vapor out.

Then 2X2 spacers (nailers) vertically.

Then they used random width 3/4" cedar strips, 2" to 6" wide, spaced one half inch between each other. Nothing else, no chinking or any filler.

It looked interesting but I have to wonder about the membrane.

Anyone familiar with this?

I don't trust high tech membranes as much as good ol' low tech felt.  I doubt it has ever lost a whole house of it's own volition.  Most of the high tech ones cannot say that-- and it's not easy to find reference to that fact as they do their work to keep negative material off of the net.
