I only read your post (and not subsequent ones), so my comment does not reflect them. But I'd say if you can avoid a mortgage you'd be doing well. So long as you and "hubby" are happy with living environment at mom's place, then why the heck not!?! (provided mom makes good pies and such  .

I will be staying with a friend while I build my cabin in Vermont (and would stay with family if they were nearer). No big deal! And best of luck to you!
