I've started working on adding in a scissor truss option into the module. Here are some quick and dirty (sorry I must have set my lunch down on my engineering pad earlier today) calcs for the heel joint of such a truss:

Version 3.9.0d - 02.14.2025
- Fixed a floating point rounding bug for metric templates.
- Fixed a bug for balusters when a run of stairs is a single step.

Still putting out a few little fires.  Whenever you make big changes it always seems like you miss something or you add a new feature that adds a whole new level of complexity, and then the plugin gets itself into states that you did not foresee.  That is what makes this job fun, you get surprised once in a while.

Please feel free to send me any additional bug reports or feature requests.  I think we've just about wrapped up the stair module for a while.

Lots of stuff on YT about building log cabins.  It's important to understand that R value for logs is R1 per inch of thickness - so a 12 inch log has an R value of R12.

Next, materials.  Lots of cabins made with Lodgepole pine, fir, oak and others.  Treating the logs correctly is the key.

Also, type of construction:  there are D log walls (something I'm doing), knotched, dove tails, flat logs, round logs flattened round logs etc etc.

Next, permitting:  If permitting is required than you may have to find out what local codes are enforced.  Log walls are generally pretty low in R value so permitting might require BIG logs if they insist on R21walls etc.

Or the heat loss is greater than the unit can put out or than it can put out at that temp. 200 sf, that certainly sounds suspect on the surface of things though. Apples to watermelons but ours was not keeping up when it was 3 outside a couple of weeks ago, but that is rare and she seemed to take the trips to the woodpile in stride. I'm sure the unit is fine, I sized it too small for those infrequent snaps (actually I bought it for summer but it tends to make me lazier with regards to burning wood.) Unless your place is a sieve I can't imagine any unit not keeping up in that space, light up their tech line.

At 200 sf, if it is sealed/insulated/on grid a $20 electric heater using way more than that in power will get you through those days.

Aside, I did see this year's version of PFM electric heater a few weeks ago... "pure freakin magic", this tiny plug in wall mounted thing will heat a home to 65 in minutes, uh-huh :D .  Electric resistance heat is all the same as far as watts in and heat out ... whether it is light bulbs, oil filed radiators, ceramic, or wall mounted baseboards. 1 watt = 3.4 btu's.

Buy the cheap one if you go that route... and then factor in running it. There is no more expensive way to heat as far as cost per btu. Most of the plug in electric heaters use 1500 watts on hi and put out around 5000 btu's. For comparison my small jobsite propane torpedo heater blows thru about 10 gallons of propane a day and puts out about 50,000 btu's

I wanted to give shout-out to the raabes, mountain Don, Don p, and the others on the forum for their suggestions and experience over the past year and a half.

We've structurally completed the 1 story cottage plan shell.

Still lots of work to do on the inside. I will post photos later this year after our permits close.
