My gun club sent this out in a push email detailing the nature of the new proposals.  It's a bit lengthy...

In the past year we have been witness to a number of tragic events from which many of our State and Federal elected representatives are using as a podium for the purpose of preaching the destruction of our 2nd Amendment rights as well as other constitutional rights.  Recently a LARGE number of legislative bills have been introduced at both the Federal and State legislatures that will severely erode and in some cases take away our Second Amendment rights such as the following:

FEDERAL BILLS

1.       S.176 "Common Sense Concealed Firearms Permit Act of 2011" Sponsor Barbra Boxer (D-CA)

In short is allows the Federal Government control of who gets Concealed carry Permits.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:S.176.IS:

2.       H.R. 308: "Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device Act" Sponsor Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.)

Banning the Sale or possession of any magazine holding more than 10 rounds

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/hr308

3.       H.R. 4063: "Guns-Free National Parks Act" Sponsor James McDermott (D-WA)

In 2009 you were given the right to carry in National Parks.  This bill proposes to take it away again. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/hr4063

4.       S.35: "Gun Show Background Check Act" Sponsor Frank Lautenburg (D-NJ)

This will force citizens to perform background checks on anyone they might sell too.  In addition the seller will pay a tax "Registration Fee" and Directs the AG to maintain a "permanent Record" of the sale as they see fit.  Effectively Gun Registration. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/s35

5.       S.436: "Fix Guns Checks Act" Sponsor Chuck Schumer (D-NY)

Another Gun Registration bill that imposes background checks and approval of the sale or transfer of any gun for any purpose.  More "Registration Fees" (Taxes) (gun registry).  Even when you take you firearm to a gunsmith and get it back you have to do it again.  The financial burden on gun owners in this bill is enormous!  http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/s436

6.       S.150 Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 (yet to be formally titled) Sponsor Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)

The text of this bill as filed is not yet available from the GPO and it seems to be changing however here are some of the said to be provisions in the bill.

1.       Bans the sale or transfer of 157 named firearms.

2.       Bans all semi-auto rifles with removable magazines.

3.       Bans detachable magazine pistols with certain provisions.

4.       Bans all firearms with fixed magazines holding more than 10 rounds.

5.       Bans all semi-auto shotguns which contain at least one of a list of features.

6.       Bans frames and receivers for "banned guns".

7.       Bans Gun parts or combinations of gun parts from being made or sold or transferred.

8.       Bans any part perceived to accelerate rate of fire( even a match trigger).

9.       Bans sale or transfer of banned firearms including heirs with no sunset provisions.

10.   There was even wording to the effect that schools can prevent your child from attending if you have firearms at home.

11.   EXEMPTS Government officials from the ban including fully automatic firearms.

This is the most far over reaching gun grab bill to date.  The facts used by the Senator for reduction of Gun violence are completely misrepresented and untrue. Plus it lets the government officials arm themselves even with full automatic weapons. Now why would they want to do that?

Here is the NRA ILA take on the bill:   http://www.nraila.org/news-issues/articles/2013/1/feinstein-introduces-massive-semi-auto-firearm-and-magazine-ban.aspx

Here is the US Senate version of the bill (when it gets published):

7.       H.R. 227: "Child Gun Safety and Gun Access Prevention Act"  Sponsor Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX)

Bans possession of "semi-auto" rifles and any handgun by anyone under the age of 21.  Also dictates how firearms will be stored in your home or face prosecution for failure to comply.  If you 18 you can go to a foreign land and fight for our country but you cannot come home and be expected to know how to handle a rifle or pistol.  http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/hr227

8.       H.R. 142 "Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act of 2013" Sponsor Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.)

Speaks for itself.  http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c113:H.R.142:

STATE OF NEW MEXICO BILLS

1.       H.B. 77 "Firearms Transfer Act"  Sponsor Miguel P. Garcia

This bill requires all firearms sales and or transfers to undergo a background check including gun shows and private citizen FTF sales.  A registration fee (TAX) will be paid to the state for the transfer and the state will maintain a "Permanent record" of the transfer/buyer/sell information.  It puts the burden of protecting the public on the back of the individual firearm owner instead of the People as a whole.  This does not afford "equal protection" under the law.  It also has no provision to protect the names of gun owners in the proposed Data-Base. Such that anyone can request the information and form a "Map" like the one in NY.  Not to mention "gun registration".  They will know who you are and where you are.  http://www.nmlegis.gov/lcs/_session.aspx?Chamber=H&LegType=B&LegNo=77&year=13

IN addition to those mentioned above there are many more bills in the wings waiting to hit the tables of our legislatures.  The Anti-gun crowd is relentless!  We must be relentless in return with our calls and letters to our representatives and Senators.  We must show support of our 2nd Amendment right or we will lose it and then the others shortly thereafter.

We urge you to Contact your Representatives and let your voices be heard.

Recently [emphasis added] a LARGE number of legislative bills have been introduced at both the Federal and State legislatures that will severely erode and in some cases take away our Second Amendment rights such as the following:

1. Introduced Jan. 2011 - already dead
2. Introduced Jan. 2011 - already dead
3. Introduced Feb. 2012 - already dead
4. Introduced Jan. 2011 - already dead
5. Introduced Mar. 2011 - already dead
6. Introduced Jan. 2013
7. Introduced Jan. 2011 - already dead
8. Introduced Jan. 2013

I do not live in NM, so I won't comment on that legislation.  Does the author not understand how government works or is he just seeing how ignorant other people are?  I don't take issue with him trying gain support to disagree with recent firearms legislation.  But, if anyone were to call their local representative to complain about legislation that died 2 years ago, the person complaining would look like a fool.  There are only two on that list that are recent, to include the others detracts from the argument and undermines the credibility.

Thank you for the clarification.  I am going to give feedback to my club.
