Owner-Builder Projects / Confused about shed roof cabin...
Last post by PaulJHorst - May 07, 2025, 10:18:04 PM
I am planning on building a 20'x12' shed roof cabin (monopitch) on my property and need some help with the framing, especially the side walls.

I have a question about the front wall being 12' high and the back wall being 8' high, using 2x6 lumber. When I cut the bird mouth on the rafters to fit the back wall, the other end rests on the front wall without contact. Is this the correct approach or does it need to be adjusted for better support?

Can anyone help me with some advice? Thanks!

I found a couple wildland firefighters who love to work and fall trees to do the work for me recently.  Didn't cost much and worked HARD!  I was impressed!

I hope to get some forest thinning done this year but have to run smaller saws now or hire someone -- if I knew someone who would do the falling I'd probably hire them for a weekend and see what they can get done!

We have many standing dead ash trees that I'd love to take down, but my wife's father had a tree accident that left him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life....So she is not too keen on me taking down trees, especially dead ones.....which is fair....

So far enough trees are falling in our woods to keep my firewood supply up, but we don't really have to worry about thinning from a fire perspective like you guys out west....

I'm here and usually watch your videos, whether you post them on here or not!    But this site is definitely quiet...

Any anecdotes or experience with New England or even Canadian lumber mills and prefab panels for walls & floors?

Which plans are best suited for an "energy truss" R60 roof?

Thanks.
