Multimeter readings

I have a new Klein multimeter. Great tool.

When I take a battery reading from the posts, the meter reading will jump all around for sometimes a along as 30 seconds..even pausing on a value for 4-5 seconds before resuming "searching"

It finally settles "hard" on a number and when disconnected and reconnected, will come back immediately to that number.

Any special reason for the initial moving about, or just normal?

If its a digital one and set on autoranging sometimes yes

choose the range and try again and see if it does the same thing
