Apparently, due to more rain and some landslide activity in 1998, 1999, etc., anyone building on land with a certain degree of slope in Mason County has to have a geotech assessment at the least.  The realtor said it would cost $250.  More like $1,500 and a one month waiting period.  The government is trying to, expensively, protect me from myself.  All the rock walls, french drains, and the original land work has been there for 20 years.  Just a word to the wise.

When at first you don't succeed---

Called around and found a local guy who charges $600-$800 for what the other company quoted $1.500 - $6,000.

That is much better.  Someone who's not taking advantage of the system so much.

See if the realtor will pay part of the difference between what she said and what the lower quote is?

;D
