The states bordering the mason dixon line enjoy four season weather and there are many good communitys to be found.Central Va (especially in the triangle between Charlottesville,Lynchburg and roanoke this area is ranked high, the central and southern shenandoah valley, the delmarva peninsula, middle chesapeake bay, south branch of the potomac in west Va,south eastern ohio, south central Kentucky.   I have spent time or looked into all these areas all have reasonable realestate prices ouside of the towns and friendly natives for the  most part.  But if its salt water You like try the middle and lower delmarva south of Salisbury Maryland especially snow hill. town dock on the atlantic side the bay 19miles down the river that runs through town..  Or if its mountains go where paradise lay along the upper James river from Cumberland county across the blue ridge too its upper reaches lexington ,Goshen and Iron gate
