I built a 100,000 lb press in 1974 - had an middle age family man from the church welding for me -- made me mad because he couldn't follow instructions.  Seems the beers he had at lunch interfered with his comprehension -- actually I think he was just plain stupid, so it didn't quite come out exactly as planned but it did work well.  We still use it.  It was a bit similar to the tire press.
