Okay, I'll do my best to explain this  d*

Does anyone know what they call it when you have a very narrow roof like structure that separates two stories of a home?  For example:  In John's 1 1/2 story 20 by 30 plan, if someone wanted to have 1 type of siding on the bottom level (gable end) and a different type of siding on the upper level (say beveled cedar on the bottom and cedar shingles on the top) they would have a transition between the two.  I have seen a variety of ways to do this.

I was thinking of a very narrow roof like overhang to transition this.  I have seen it done before but can't think of what it is called.  I was trying to Google up a few images for my wife to explain it to her.

Any thoughts or ideas on a name for this?  Or did I do a poor job of describing this and y'all think I'm nuts  :o.

Try eyebrow roof. And look at all the distractors.

Maybe also False roof / belly band roof.

I know what you mean but I don't think theres really a name for that effect. Sorry.
When in doubt , build it stout with something you know about .
