Possibilities for expanding an a-frame

Hi folks,

I found a nice a-frame in an area I like, but, as you might expect, the bedrooms on the second floor are quite small. Really small, as in they would barely fit a queen size bed and not much else.  It already has a second mini a-frame on the center of one side similar to this http://builditgreenne.com/images/project2big3.jpg. How hard would it be to build another on the other side? The rest of the structure has a full basement but I would need to come up with some other plan for a foundation.

How about dormers? Google images has some photos of a-frames with dormers but I don't know how hard they would be to build. Since the roof and walls are the same thing, my gut feeling is that it might be tricky to cut the rafters.

Thoughts?
