Cooking varmints

I was wondering if anyone round these parts of the internets cooked and ate varmints such as raccoons and possums and squirrels?  I've eaten both racoon and squirrel and I have to say I enjoyed both.  Possum is one animal I have yet to eat.  I've heard all sorts of bad things about them but my grandfather recently caught two on his property and I'm debating on trying to cook them.  Cheap tasty eats or horrible hissing varmint?

Well....Raccoons aren't my favorite and depending on what a Possum has been eating, they can be pretty good but greasy to tasting like someone's garbage can.

Squirrels are considered a delicacy, and I eat them all the time.

I've had squirl and armadilo but never possum or coon. You can make chili out of just about anything and no one will notice.

Scott, can you get me an Armadillo shell?

I have it on good authority that helmets made from them are the only sure way to block Government mind scanners. This is causing me great concern now that I know they are placing the scanners in both stoplights and cell phone towers.

I'll keep my eyes open Peter. They used to be pretty common around here but the past few years they sorta disappeared. Texas is a better place to find them.

Thanks for the replies guys. So far I get pretty sour looks when I tell people of my intent to one day eat a possum.  I think for now I'll pass but one of these days I may need to eat them. Hopefully not but you never know.

I had a pet possum years ago - raised it from a little baby that fit in my hand to a big thing - got away one day when my brother-in-law let him out in the backyard - I was heartbroken.  He was really sweet & the softest fur!  He'd sit there & hold a strawberry in his hands & eat it, I fed him oatmeal, fruit & veggies.  Wouldn't have ever thought to eat him, though 

His name was Algernon Lafayette (the was my grandfather's name) but I didn't actually know if he was a he or she....

Whoa. That's very interesting. They always seemed to me to be a scary critter when I was growing up. Now a little older and wiser I know their mean face is just a trick when they are threatened. Those teeth do look kind of nasty though.  I'm always up for taking on strange and new pets.  Perhaps I will be feeding a possum instead of eating.

The 1st day when I'd hold it in my hand, it would hiss - but after than it was really sweet - would go to sleep while I was holding it.  They do have a lot of sharp teeth    Don't know if I'd try to get friendly with an adult possum...
