I have been enjoying that site Glenn, alot of old TMEN stuff being researched and moved forward, good to see.

I've been taking a forestry short class online and scanned in some recently harvested lumber samples to post. While waiting for the showers to break this morning I thought some of you might enjoy seeing some wood pics.
Slippery or "red" elm;

I think this was American elm but it could also be winged elm or hackberry... I made my ID and destroyed the leaves and bark before knowing there were other possiblilities;

This is the exotic invasive I was removing from the site, tree of heaven, Ailanthus Altissima;

This is Sassafras, "poor man's oak", sometimes sold to the unwitting as chesnut. Planing or sawing it will give it away for sure though, that nice smell of sassafras tea. It is also fairly rot resistant;
