Be sure to get your shots. Boots and Wranglers are issued at the border. You'll need to master saying "Howdy, Ya'll" unless you're going to Dallas then it's "Sup'dude".

StinkerBell

We are moving to the Austin area.

I can use any advice about Texas.  ;D

Homegrown Tomatoes

Take your sunscreen if you're fair-skinned.   ;D

Welcome to Austin Stinkerbell...  We're happy to have you.  Just a little note for you, You aren't moving to another country if you are moving to Austin, you are moving to San Francisco which happens to be in another country, Texas.

Where 'bouts you moving to in Austin?  We're ENE of Austin.

Welcome to Texas, my land is roughly 1 hour south east of Austin going towards LaGrange.
Advice for Texas is not the same thing as advice for Austin.  Austin can get .. umm .. weird.

sunscreen + water is probably good advice for either tho.

Leander / Roundrock is a great area, gotten a bit beatup lately with Dell slowing down, but still doing mostly OK from what I hear.

I am very excited. The Hubs will be starting July 6th, with or without me. House is back on the market for sale. I will stay back to get the house sold. However, if it is not sold by the time school starts it will get complicated.

I know people think Austin is an odd duck, but it might be an odd duck by Texas standards. I seriously have reservations that it's like San Fransico. Maybe some under tones ;)

phalynx

Oh no... I have been to San Francisco....  Austin is identical to San Fran except it is a little smaller.  If you haven't been to Austin, you'll be a little shocked to find it in TX.  If you have,,, you'll notice it more and more over time.

glenn kangiser

Does it have a Bay?

I don't remember - ---- I got a bit wasted at a bar south of town when trucking years ago. d*  They had a good band though... :)

If you get to this foreign land, Stink, don't forget where your friends are...   ::)

We have a river that functions as a lake right down town.  We are the live music capital of the world.  There are at least 2 bars on every corner, 50 million eateries, every piercing on the planet, every hair do on the planet, every lifestyle on the planet, and,,,, every moron on the planet.  Just like SF, we are full of fruits and nuts. :)

I was hoping to move away from the insanity......... d* d*

phalynx

You need to be far, far, very far from Austin.  Austin, if that stuff drives you insane, will be your worst nightmare.  I actually HATE Austin.  I live far enough away from it that it doesn't hurt, but I have to work there.  Cedar PArk, Round Rock, etc... that won't be far enough... If you love that stuff, you'll be in heaven.

StinkerBell

I don't. The hub's job is North Austin Area. Have any suggestions?

phalynx

If you keep heading north, you'll get further and further away from it. Round Rock isn't horrible.  It's a nice "suburban" area.  It's still filled with Austinites....  Where are you moving from?  You need to understand it is hot as heck here......  It's not a lot of humidity, but man is it hot...

ScottA

If you keep on heading north you'll end up in God's country, Oklahoma.

StinkerBell

Seattle to Austin....I was hoping to move away from the enviorment around here.
Plus I need to dry out my mildew feet.

I have been told a horrible Joke about Tx and about Ok.......

I am affriad if I repeat it, I will get beat up!

:)  During the construction of the trans-alaska pipeline in 74-77 a favorite saying here in Alaska was:  "Happiness is seeing a Texan heading south with an Okie under each arm."  We were also fond of telling Texans:  "If we divided Alaska into two states, Texas would be the third largest state."
Rwanders lived in Southcentral Alaska since 1967
Now lives in St Augustine, Florida

StinkerBell

Living in Anchorage for over 3 years, I understand that comment!

I miss Alaska, but no work for the Hub's. Not even sure if the Hub's could handle the winters.

phalynx

Seattle,,,, it's going to be very similar except temp temps and the rain.  We get high temps and no rain.

I believe the best TX joke is:
Do you know why Texas doesn't float out into the Gulf of Mexico?

Cause Oklahoma REALLY SUCKS!

:)

StinkerBell

Thats the exact Joke I heard! rofl

To affraid to share, cause I think Homey can beat me up.
