okay to staple cedar shingles on my wall?

I checked with the cedar shingle bureau (online) and for roofing purposes, they indicate that using staples is okay (given certain minimums), but can I also assume it is okay to use pneumatic staple gun driven staples for the cedar shingles on my wall?

I would guess it is okay, but I want to make sure.

I wouldn't do it that way IF it where my house or I was the contractor. I have stapled Cedar shingles on , as that was how the boss man wanted it done.

I have seen way more corroded staples on roofs and sidewalls  than galv. nails.

The way I look at it IF your springing for Cedar shingles you have a siding that could last 200 years maybe more. Why then skimp on the fasteners?

With your whether and IIRC your coastal Or. wind driven rain carrying salt water mist , or even worst saltwater fog , I just wouldn't skim on the fasteners, UNLESS you get Stainless steel. They are , again IIRC , about $200.00 a box , about 4 times what regular staples cost.

I may, indeed, spring for the stainless staples.   Two reasons: I have a wrist injury and was told to limit my hammering and two, using a pneumatic stapler allows me to work solo faster.

Here is the link to the cedar shake bureau wall installation guide.   http://www.cedarbureau.org/installation/wall-manual.htm.  They give detailed info on the type/size of stainless steel staples.
I'll be starting the same task in a few weeks.  I'm using staples to also maximize my work in site and because of my poor hammering skills.  I'm about to loose my fingernail from a hammer hit a couple of weeks ago.  So now I'm shy about using short nails.

I'm having trouble finding the stainless steel staples in Canada.  Can only find the light duty stainless steel ones.  I checked Home Depot and did a search on Google.  Anyone have a source?

I was going back and forth between staples and nails for my siding and I found a used siding nail gun on e-bay for like $60.  It works great.  It is made especially for coiled siding nails.

I bought a couple of the boxes of coiled nails on-line too.  It works great.

Doesn't look like there is much for sale thru websites in Canada.  I hate paying the brokerage fees and usually extra shipping from the US.  Maybe I'll rent a roofing (or siding) type nail gun and it that way it will be easier getting coiled galv roof nails.
