You show me yours, I'll show you mine.  Ponds, streams, whatever.  Got water?  Show it off.

We live in the desert, and having a small pond with some water running is a luxury.  We are landscaping around our pond but the pond itself is almost done and is looking pretty nice (IMHO):

We have anywhere from 2 to 12 lillies blooming, as well as blooms from some of the vertical plants.  I have no idea what any of this stuff is called.  Not my department:

We have 11 large goldfish (almost eating sized!  [hungry]) and the plants that we put in must have had fish eggs in them as we have teeny catfish and some minnow-like fish.  Probably mosquito fish, but once again, not my department.  My daughter and I went on a night hike a couple of weeks ago right after a nasty rain, and we came back and found a very tasty looking bullfrog sitting in front of our couryard door!  Since we live in the desert, no telling how far that frog came.  I suspect that it heard the waterfall in my pond maybe?  Anyway, she is now a resident (the, um frog... my daughter has been a resident for awhile).  Sorry about the Kimber 45.  Lots of coyotes, loose dogs and nasty two legged things that are attracted to the arroyo behind my house.  Plus you never know when you might get attacked by a renegade desert frog.

you do not have to apologize for your constitutional right to bear arms. i enjoyed your pictures and story. nice looking family and frog.
unless we recognize who's really in charge, things aren't going to get better.

When the Constitutional rights start being ignored it seems wearing a gun helps to jog the offenders memory.  First public fire meeting after I refused to leave the head Sheriff announced it was OK for a responsible adult to stay and defend their place -- I assume the subject came up at the office, or they would not have mentioned it.

So - I'm for wearing a gun when there may be a need.  It's too late to put it on after the problem arrives.

Please put your area in your sig line so we can assist with location specific answers.

That would be a nice sight to see in this piece of desert. We have to have a hard rain and the washes run in a couple of hours it all disappears. One of my neighbors likes to garden so he waters, he also kills more snakes than anyone else I know.
I have done so much with so little for so long that today I can do almost anything with absolutely nothing.

Peter is that at the house or the farm? Does it have a name?  The Jackson and the James are close by in Va and run your direction.

It's at the farm John. As a matter of fact, that's the spot the barn/house overlooks. We have a tad over 2 miles of river frontage following the curves. I have a creek at the burb house, but it's nothing special.

The river is the middle Meherrin. There are three Meherrin rivers. The North, Middle and South. All three originate one county south and are the cleanest rivers I've ever seen. They all come together near Emporia and form the lake Emporia uses for it;s water supply.

Rock bass and smallmouths. Great fly fishing.

This is roughly a 1/3rd acre pond that captures the watershed for a few acres via natural slopes and draws.  It was put in back in the 80s and overflows to a dropoff where a seasonal creek runs on the backside.

Certainly needs some cleanup work, however thats way on down on the list.

One of many deer highways travel past it

Sometimes the deer even like to scrape the cedars up a bit..
