Bridging ?

I'll be starting my Joists and Sub Floor next week on my 20x30 1.5 story. The ? I have is if I have a steel beam running down the center and the joists will be spanning 10 feet to the center beam which bridging should I use and where? Should I solid block over the steel beam where the Joists are sistered and then use metal bridging on either side of the center beam? Thanks Pete

I'd say  block over the beam and your good. 10' of span is nothing , if you decide to use bridging , I'd use metal brigding from Simpson , attach the  two pieces to the joist tops , MAKE sure they do not touch , at least 1/8" gap between the two , nail them to the joist bottoms AFTER the roof is shingled , so the floor is "loaded" when you nail it off. Again insure they pieces do not touch , if they do they will squeak.

Yes it's only 10 feet between the outside wall and the beam , your using "I" joist right? You the guy who asked about the wood rim used with engineered joist aren't you?

   You might try  starting a thread about your place then keep all your questions in one place it really helps me at least , keep track of what "job" we're talking about.

  If we don't see the question on that original thread , then ask a specific question here in this section.

That makes it easier to manage IMO for who's doing what , with what , etc etc .

Just a thought.

With "I" joist we don't even block over the beams , UNLESS it spec'd / incuded in / with  the engineering of the floor system.

Ah OK. I still wouldn't use bridging on that short of a span , I would block over the beam.
