I'm almost done framing the roof of this little workshop I'm building. The structure is 10x18 and the gabled roof is framed with 2x4s. It's about a 12 in 12 and the ridge board is couple of 2x6s scarfed together end-to-end.

Does this roof need collar ties? I'd rather skip them if possible, since there's little enough room in there as it stands without reducing the head room even further.

Thanks.

If I picture this correctly, you have loft floor joists tying the walls together which should eliminate the need for collar ties as they will resist the outward forces caused by the rafters.

That is correct. I used 2x6 joists. Thanks for the quick answer!
