T&G ceiling question

Sasquatch

Hey all. I have an ample supply of 1x6 and 1x8 T&G knotty pine that I came upon inexpensively.  My plan is to use it on the interior walls of my cinderblock cabin. Turns out there's more where this came from, so I'm thinking (this is where it gets dangerous)...

The upstairs is supported by several 4x beams w/2x8 T&G decking on top. This T&G is shot from water damage (as are a few beams) and needs to be replaced. Since I'm planning to replace the decking and add a false floor (2x6 sleepers) to accomodate new plumbing upstairs, any reason I couldn't/shouldn't re-deck with the "cheap" 1x8 T&G (so's to keep the existing look of the ceiling) and build my false floor on top w/proper plywood decking. The 2x6 sleepers would still be nailed to the beams below (albeit through the new 1x T&G). Yes, I've already checked to see that the beams can support the additional dead load of the false floor.

Have I scared anybody yet?

BTW, I really need to finish this cabin & get it sold, so I can go on to build a 2-story universal!

Thanks for the help!

I don't see a problem with that, Jason.  I used 1x12 w/a groove at 6" on top second floor joists (knotty pine ceiling between joists) then put 3/4 osb (or equivalent -- maybe particle board back then) on top for putting carpet on about 20 years ago.  Never had a problem.

(Damn--make that about 30 years ago). [crz]
