Fishing, waiting for the snow to melt.....

Well, while I am waiting for the snow to melt, I've been doing a little fishing.  I have an old beat up boat and an enthusiastic fishing buddy.  We had a good day a couple of Sundays ago.

We went out to see if we could get the Tiger Muskies interested.  We had a good day.

The best lure was a neutral bouyancy jerk bait.

They don't fight very hard though.  They make one or two hard pulls, then it is a bit like reeling in a log.  These fish were put in to control the goldfish and sucker populations.  You can take one home, but it has to be in excess of 40".  We did not catch any big ones.

Nothing like springtime fishing.  Looks like you and your fishing buddy had a good time. 

I was down in Sargent, TX last weekend with my grownup friends for a saltwater fishing weekend looking for speckled trout and redfish.  Caught a few reds and a nice black drum.  No trout, (seems the heavy rain the days before messed the salinity of the canals up).  I also didn't make a crappie run a single time this year, which is a shame because it's something I have done almost religiously during spring spawn for more than a decade. 

I need to take my fishing buddy (my 6 year old son) on a trip soon, he is itching to go.  I am thinking of trying to get some of the big cats off the south side of the lake Livingston damn.  I think he is finally ready for such a nighttime adventure and I would love to show him the fun it can be. 

The only thing better than fishing is fishing with your kids.
