Electric Gang Box with Pine Siding

Started putting up gang boxes for electric today.  They are standard boxes with 1/2" protuding for drywall.  I plan on putting up pine tongue and groove, not dry wall.  Do I need to use an adjustable box or will standard boxes work?

Around here (NM) the box has to extend flush to the finished surface if using wood. they make extenders for standard boxes if necessary.

Depending on how thick the wall covering is regular boxes can somethimes just be spaced forward enough. I like the adjustable type though...

I'll add that in some instances the extender has to be the same material as the box.  You can't use a plastic extender on a metal box - or so we were told.  We had one section with double Type-X and forgot to compensate for it.  Commercial wiring with metal boxes and conduit.  I bought the plastic snap-on extenders and had to replace them.  Kind of makes you wonder why they make them if you can't use them!

Sure you can use them.  If you have a piece of the finish pine, place it flush on the studs.  Set the depth of your regular box so that once nailed the edges of the box will be flush with the finish pine face. 

All that being said, I found the adjustable type late in the game and really like them.  Takes all the guesswork out of it.  One one of my boxes, I got it wrong and had to build it up with washers, wish I had put in adjustable there.
