Title: question about installing shingles
Post by: nathan.principe on November 22, 2010, 09:01:02 PM
This question is not for my personal cabin project, but something Im involved in.  I am a landscape designer and working with a contractor installing an outdoor shade cover that will be hipped on all four sides with a front gable cut out.  My question is this, all the cedar rafters will be exposed and it is a common practice around here Ive noticed to use cedar T&G or Lap-N-Gap siding as roof sheathing, this is 1"x_ stock material.  What can be used to hold the shingles on with out completely penetrating the sheathing.  Has anyone ever used a 3/4 heavy duty staple?( I would be concerned about wind getting a hold of the shingles) Is there a 3/4 roofing nail?  Im trying to avoid to sheathing the whole thing with regular old cedar 2"x_ stock to  hide the nails

There is a 7/8" roofer, but I go over the T&G with a layer of 1/2" osb instead.
