If you have never seen one of these in action before, it is worth a look

What diameter blade has that got? How much horsepower? I've thought about building a mill of some kind. As a tool maker, it's actually not very hard to to, but most of the DIY mills are band mills. I've got trees up to 24" on my property, so I need some capacity.
cool !
about $15,000

Cool saw - everybody needs some kind of sawmill. :)
I got to work with a fellow that had a Lucas for a few months. They certainly have alot going for them. We could knock down and setup over just about any log. I stuck one large log in a ditch. We just setup over it until we decided to flip it out of the ditch and finish it. One of our old monster white oaks tipped over the other night. To give an idea there is a 12" dia white pine that it took with it still nestled in its crown. The 4' dia base is above my head as it lays right now. I'll need to split it in half just to get it on my mill, probably need to to move it anyway. A swinger would set up over it and it would be a done deal in a few hours. I can make wider boards but that is not an issue alot of times. Although wide stuff is eye candy too... I was in a neighbors 1910 garage this morning. The siding is 19" wide board and batten... sweet!
Don with 19" board

Don just curious with the 19" boards did they still use normal sized 'bats'?
They had used 1x4's for the batts. I don't recall seeing a gap inside wider than about 1/2" so this stuff was probably fairly dry when they used it. I used 10" pretty green on my shop and had similar sized gaps.
While watching the sawmill video I stumbled onto the "WORLDS FASTEST LOGSPLITTER" or possibly limb remover. I'm not talking about about tree limbs. d*

Cool videos, this guy Jamie, is a mad scientist and he has 8 videos of making his own swing mill for about $200. He also made a bandsaw one earlier so dig through his videos if you're interested.

That's not a logsplitter;
Now THIS is a logsplitter:

I need one of those.
Wow, that's cool it's so compact to fit on a bobcat.
The previous guys with the huge wheel splitter have some serious balls! That is until they get ripped off.
Something kinda similar: a screw type log splitter (http://www.permies.com/permaculture-forums/238_0/general-homesteading/screw-type-log-splitter)
These threads are dangerous to me. I really want a sawmill now d*
Band-saw mills are nice as well, they leave a nicer rough sawn texture.
These beams where cut on a swing mill up on the Skagit River, I hauled them to Whidbey Island to Jeff's band saw mill to get the R/S texture the client wanted.

That is awesome. I got to try that. It would be a big help when making furniture.
