Title: Design mods for a use as a bunkhouse?
Post by: RayN on January 03, 2005, 06:55:47 PM
I guess this is a two pronged questions:

1) How many people could you sleep in a little house?

2) What mods (like loft height) would/could/should've done to increase that number.

The reason I'm asking is I'm first going to tackle building what I call a "camping cabin" on peirs, thinking about using the 14X24 plan.  Basically a woodstove, bathroom with a chemical/composting toilet, and some furniture would be the amenities.  I have a lot of kids and I was wondering how many of them and their friends (with supervision of course)could hunker down with sleeping bags for the night.

The way to do this is with a floorplan layout sketch. Measure the kids and see what space they need for their sleeping bags and their stuff. Then do cutouts (to the scale of the loft plan) and see what layouts you can get to work.

Depends on how many high you stack em.  I've seen triple and even quad bunks that fit a lot of bodies into a pretty small space.
