Title: Good Day at the Auction
Post by: Redoverfarm on September 19, 2010, 10:28:53 AM
Had a very good day at the builders auction on Saturday.  I was needing a double outswing steel utility  door for one of my outbuildings. Ching ching $125 for a new 6' double door.  Also picked up a few new wood working bits.  They were all "Fisch" brand made in Austria. Forstner bits which varied in sizes from 8MM to 2-5/8"  and the same brand Brad Point bits that varied from 1/8" to 18MM.  Just checking on line for the cost of the bits.  Some of which I couldn't find but substituted for lesser quality and the total came to about $600 all of which I paid $60 for.

I also picked up a 50# box of 3" deck screws.  I am constantly using deck screws and the last that I got was almost $3 a pound.  The 50# box averaged about $.90 a pound.

Also picked up an assortment of garden tools, shovels, hoes, rakes a total of 12 pieces for $60.  What am I going to do with 4 spade shovels d*.  Some of which I did need and some of which I didn't but I thought it was a good value. All are made in the USA

See. It was a good thing I left before you did or I would have had to help you bid on those forstner bits.. :-) And I'll give you $6.00 for one of those spade shovels...

The nail puller is currently about $60 right now in our local hardware store.  Good find.

The puller was from a previoous estate auction and just happened to be sitting on the bench Glenn.   You are not the only one that doesn't put stuff up.   ;)

A semi-annual building material auction is coming up in a couple of weeks here in N. Illinois.  There is really an ebb and flow to these types of auctions since much of the excess was fueled by the housing boom and easy money, but over the years I've bought 425 lb to the square shingles for $12/ Sq. (Retail $180/Sq) a trailer of 6" x 6" Cedar Beams and 45 Low-E windows at an average of $22/ea.  We broke one installing it and it cost $140 to reglass (Low E and internal mullions).  I'm hoping for composite decking this fall.  I LOVE auctions!  Through one's adversity comes anothers opportunity.
