Hello all,
I have solid plywood subfloors that I am tring to keep dry with a tarp but the tarp keeps blowing off.
how bad does rain hurt plywood? I know it swells a bit.
any ideas on keeping it dry?
I left mine uncovered the whole winter with 2-3 feet of snow on it, and its fine this year.

It will swell but further more it will delaminate the layers. Do you have the walls up or is it just a deck? If the later and you are going to delay construction and plan on using metal roofing then you are set. Just place a ridge beam or mock up in the center. Lay your roofing and from the center to the ouside edges (similar to roofing your house) and lay scrap lumber to hold down. It will shed the water.
If this doesn't apply then I would use an oil based deck paint and give it two coats to try to turn the water.
Thank you for your help.
I have 3 walls up, should have the 4th up today!
What if you wrap the tarp over the edge of the foundation deck underneath and put screws through the eyes in the tarp on into the wood underneath the deck pinning it under if you will.
I found that once the walls are up it is more or less impossible to tarp it. It just forms a bathtub and holds the water until it spills over the edges, and onto the deck.
My plywood was exposed for too long and as Redoverfarm pointed out, the plywood can delaminate, as mine did. I am going to have to do some repairs before laying down the wood flooring.
You might want to drill some small holes in any low spots to let the water drain.
I didn't do so good, but making a goal of getting the roof up as quickly as possible would serve any builder well. ;)
Thank You dug, I have the trusses being delivered monday morning!
