Title: thoughts on bathroom remodel?
Post by: Homegrown Tomatoes on February 02, 2010, 11:00:52 AM
I would so much rather be building a house the way we want it.  That was always the idea, but since we aren't, thought I'd ask your opinions on something that bugs me about the master bath in this house.  Both of the bathrooms are tiny (our closet is actually bigger.)  However, the one in our bedroom is going to need work soon.  The seal around the little box shower is broken and it has damaged some of the wall (this was done before we ever moved in.)  Anyway, I'm not crazy about the shower to begin with, but would like it better if it had a tub underneath.  Just one problem with that is that I haven't found a tub that would fit in the space.  There is a length of around only 45", but the tub could be almost square as far as width.  Anyone know of a manufacturer that makes such a thing?  I don't care if I did have to sit cross-legged in the tub as long as there could be the occasional soak in hot water.  Or, what do you think about using a stock tank as a bathtub?  Deep, fairly short, and kind of skinny, or maybe a little round one?.... we could tile all around and behind it to make it easier to clean, but not sure how that would work for a shower then.   ;D  This winter is getting to me.

Homey this would get more attention in the general section of the forum. I would think some people don't look at the off topics on a building forum.

Oh and buy the way welcome back we missed you,W

You can special order a 46 1/2" tub from Lowes for about $450.00.  Hope this helps you out . . .

I have found inspiration in Japan when it comes to small bathrooms.

They have crazy bath sizes...I like some of the sitting baths. Much taller then longer.

Heck, that'd be great! I'd be fine with reclining in an upright tub. Wouldn't have to contort to get under the water. Takes up less floor space too.

I've been thinking along the same lines, but these are beyond my
budget. What is a stock tank? I have had stock that tanked, but I think this is different. ;D

Be sure to check floor loading. Honey, why is the bathtub in the basement????

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toilets_in_Japan

I like the toilet (scroll half way down right side) that has spigot on top of the tank of a western style flush toilet allows users to conserve water by washing their hands in water destined for the next flush.

I think the other link I provided is the Americanized version on Japanese bathtubs.

May want to consider a bathtub that is fitted for a luxury style 5th wheel or RV. Some of them might just be the right size for your space.

HT there are also the walk-in tubs.  Could double as a shower as well.  But they might be on the costly side.  Something like these

Firefox here is a stock tank.

I found a 43" round soaking tub. Its expensive but I think maybe we can find it cheaper or have someone build one.

Ya know you could always get a livestock water trough and tap in a drain. Maybe even find someone to put a porcelain or fibergalss coat on it for you. It could be rather cute and have a country feel to it. I have 3' ones on oblong and round. They are pretty deep and the dry weight would not be alot at all.
