I was reading some of the stuff tonight. While I'm sure the data "supports" their point of view, it did raise a lot of suspicions I had before this came out.
The one thing you have to be careful of in science is that it is all too easy to take the data which supports your point of view, and ignore the rest.
In looking at the dataset which has been used world wide to support global warming a couple of things jump out at me.
1. Why won't they release the raw data set. I read for over an hour on how the researcher worked to get the data into a usable form. This was not an easy task, as the researcher who initially put the date together didn't have much control over what format it got put into the database.
2. It appears by reading several of the e-mails which were released that "peer review" was not as robust as it should have been. Journals were hand picked for submissions.
3. Critics of the data were, at the very least, ridiculed. At the worst, ganged up on. Not answered scientifically as they should have been.
I have worked in research and Development for quite a while. I have worked with/for very good researchers, and some borderline unethical. It isn't really that hard to spot the difference if you open your eyes.
While I can't condone the illegal release of some of this stuff, it is an eye opening experience into the world of the gatekeepers of the climate date.

It's a scam. Just like I said for years. If global warming was real there would be no need for secret data or artificially adjusted temps. They also would never have had to change the name to climate change.

I'm sure their side would say they just "massaged" the data. This is why the raw data needs to be made public.
