:o :o
How did I do that?
I was throwing debris (fallen limbs, cut up dead tree sections, assorted sizes of branches, etc) down the south slope to our access trail, where we were going to burn it. I grabbed a section of tree trunk, both hands holding onto a couple short branch stubs. They were very handy handles. :D However, the tree hand been laying on the ground for some years. I swung it left across my front and then heaved it in a swinging arc to my right and down the slope. Well, that was the plan, it had been working fine all morning.
The stub in my left hand broke away from the trunk of the tree section. There was an inch or so of tree protruding from my gloved fist. I whacked my upper lip a very good blow with it. I ended up with my lip cut inside on my own teeth and a wound in the mustache. Blood inside and out. It throbbed. It swelled some. When it didn't stop bleeding after 10 minutes I went back to the cabin and stuffed some gauze under my lip while I washed some dirt out of the mustache, then held a pad to the outside.
20 minutes or so later both inside and outside bleeding ceased. The lip feels pretty good today. Compared to Saturday.
I guess I'm lucky I didn't smash myself in the eye. :D
Yow! I know watcha' mean about debri fighting back... Face wounds always make great conversation pieces. :)
Sure you didn't just give your lovely wife a little too much lip?
:D :D
Just kidding----sounds painful and facial cuts always bleed a lot.
Don is that "first blood" at the cabin? I usually end up with something every day or every other day. Nothing real serious (some of them) but still just enough to slow me down. The wife always fears the worst when she comes home. So far I have made it home everyday.
Ouch!
I remember hitting a board with a hammer and the board broke allowing the hammer to follow through . . . Right into the side of my knee. I could barely walk for a week.

No, but it was first serious blood. I've had many little things: hammered a finger, cut a finger, and so on, but nothing serious. I do wear my chaps when chain sawing on the slopes, especially the steeper south slope where I mashed my face. They perhaps avoided a potentially serious thigh cut when I slipped a month or so back.
I use to make my little brother punch himself all the time. ;)
I wish you a speedy recovery.
Ouch! Sounds painful! My uncle gave himself a nose job that way once. He'd broken his nose when he was younger and got kicked while shoeing a horse, so his nose always had a little crook in it and it was also lopsided. A few years ago, he was clearing brush and cutting firewood when some of the wood fought back and caught him right across the nose and broke his glasses. Turns out, it re-broke his nose, and once the bruises went away and swelling went down, he looked pretty handsome... it took out the crook and evened his nose up. He still jokes about his cheap "nose job" when people mention that something looks different.... so, maybe you can skip the collagen injections in the lips now?

Stink, I think of you as the type who would throw him down on his back, sit on his chest holding his arms and have a big wad of spit held loosely between your lips over his face just hanging there, and maybe you would not accidentally lose it... [waiting]
