Title: Blammy Shells
Post by: peternap on November 06, 2009, 08:23:43 AM
I've been playing with ultra big bore using Ed Huberts loads and my own insane projectiles going as high as 1000 grains ;D

Here is my latest. It's a leggo type bullet so it can be roll crimped in a 3", 12 ga shell. I'm using 90 to 110 grains of RE 17, don't try this with shotgun powders. Oh...the people at the rifle range have named my big bore inventions.."Blammy Shells" :)

Surprisingly good, Don!
The beauty of using a slower rifle powder instead of something like Blue Dot, is that it spreads the pressure curve out longer. That's why I don't have to pay close attention to components like wads or Hulls.

The recoil is stiff, but more of a push than the sharp kick you get from a normal shotgun load.

Now the next phase may get a little painful. That calls for an increase of RE 17 and projectiles around 1000 grains. That will be my dangerous animal stopping load. The fact that Virginia doesn't have any animals that are dangerous or need stopping is irrelevant.

Another reason to reload shotgun shells too.  :D
