Title: Discount at Emergency Essentials (Freeze Dry foods +)
Post by: MountainDon on October 13, 2009, 05:05:12 PM
FWIW, currently there is a discount code (outdoors) that will get you a 10% discount on orders from Emergency Essentials.    Might be handy if anyone is thinking or ordering any freeze dried oods or other stuff.

Thanks!

I'll check them out -- I have been planning to leave a small stock of stuff like this in the cabin in case we get snowed in.

Ordered a couple times over a couple years. No problems other than getting lots o email special announcements; some o which turn out to be not too special unless you are ordering lots.  :-\  Arrival time from time of order has been about 7 - 10 days on the standard shipping.

I guess the fact that I reorder says a lot.

That's pretty much what we do as there are always a ew months when we can only access the cabin by snowshoe. I will not bother with snow machines, but that's another story. It's a three mile snowshoe trip, not bad. With food stocked at the cabin we have an easier trip in. I also have an assortment of dry foods from the grocery store; pasta, rice and some foods in foil/plastic laminate pouches; Spag sauce, tuna, salmon...

I used to leave many gallon jugs of water; 3/e4 full and freezing never burst any of them. Now we have the cistern in the ground.

We do the same thing with our trailer.  It's stocked with various non perishables in the event you need a little extra while there.  The cistern makes a big difference!  Mine's about 50 feet above the cabin site so we even have water pressure :)

I think we have enough to keep us going along with the garden, for a couple years.

Should be enough to get us past the end of the world but we will continue stocking 20 to 30 year stuff.  May have to feed kids and neighbors.:)

I may get tired of rolled oats though.  :o

Speaking of gardens I just put 4 more tomatoes into the freezer.  I remove bad spots and the core (only top and bottom really) and then put them in the freezer for a few hours to completely freeze solid.  Then remove them and vacuum seal them.

We pull them out for sauces the rest of the year.

Some day I'll have a root cellar too! ;)
