I've often thought I developed heart problems and Diabetes because of my past sins. My wife thinks it's because I used to hunt possums with a golf club.
It just may be true!
A couple of weeks ago, The land rover started having a dead battery every two days. It was charging fine, the battery would just drain down every two days.
I took it to the shop because I hate working on the silly thing. They said the battery was bad and replaced it. Then the window stopped working, back to the shop. When we went to pick it up...the battery was dead. There was a vibration in the thing and we took it to the shop...
Now these are good mechanics and we've used them for years....The bolts holding the driveshaft flange were the problem and two had sheared.
We picked it up and it was clunking like the U joints were bad. I had a long and somewhat unchristian discussion with the owner. He had his best mechanic look at it and agreed the U Joints needed replacing but for some reason, he didn't have what he needed to do it on a land rover. Sent the driveshaft to NAPA.
NAPA said the driveshaft was cracked so we put a new one on.
I got it back and fixed the electrical problem myself >:(
Back to the curse
Yesterday, I got in the truck to go to the farm. It would only click. It has TWO fairly new batteries. The gauge inside said 11 volts but my meter said 12.5...it just clicked the Solenoid which scared me. I just replaced the starter and I didn't wannt to replace that thing again. I think they make them out of gold.
Anyway, I jumped it..no good, moved the cables to the side lugs and it started. GREAT!
It was charging fine but when I turned it off at the farm and tried to restart...only clicked. >:( >:( >:( >:(
I had a lot of work to do so I left it and did what I needed to do. Got another battery out to jump it and opened the hood. Just to see, I tried to start it and it started fine >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
Drove back and this morning pulled both batteries and they tested fine. Put them back and it started >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
There is NO REASON FOR THIS EXCEPT A CURSE.
The Rover is obviously cursed bad! Must be the possums. n*
I'd put on CL immediately and run.

Come to think of it...I think Jane bought that thing from a guy named Haney! :-\ I wonder if he has a Tractor Supply Franchise too? ???

If you didn't have bad Luck, you wouldn;t have any luck at all.
;D
Check all ground and power connections in the starting circuit for corossion. This includes the battery cables as well.
It doesn't take much and everything will test ok when you put a volt meter on it, but the minute you start pushing current through it it will act like it is open.
So, remove each ground connection, wirebrush, put some conductive goop on the connection ( highly technical term :o I don't remember the brand but usually comes in one of those cans that has a little brush permanently attached to the screw type top. Antisize comes in the same type container) and reconnect securely. We are just talking about the large wires that carry the starting current.
Typically the connection between the engine and the frame is the one that goes bad, but this depends on the type of vehicle.
It's a little work, but it will pay off.
Or, you could try an exsorsist, but I haven't had much luck with them.
