Title: Orientation of structural Corbels.
Post by: Redoverfarm on August 28, 2009, 07:40:50 PM
OK get on your thinking caps and tell me if I am thinking correctly.  I think I am having a brain f@*t.  I made them out of 2X12 , #2 Spruce which is not a close grain variety.  I am thinking that the grain should be parallel to the top it's supporting.  Somehow I am thinking that perpendicular will fail.  Maybe Peg or Don_P will pick up and tell whether I am right or wrong.  Any ideas?

These are under a overhanging counter top? Interior type corbel?

Grain should run vertical. If this corbel is what I discribed above.

Corbels - I had to look that up.  Truthfully and not kidding - thanks.  I never knew that they had a real name.  I just thought they were called a corner support, brace,
or something of that nature.  That is one reason, I like this particular forum so much.   ;D
