Title: What size hole for pulling romex
Post by: rdzone on August 20, 2009, 02:06:44 PM
Seems like a simple question, but is there a standard size hole?  or just whatever bit is available, so long as the hole is big enough to easily pull the romex through?

.45 acp was too small and 12gauge slugs just made a mess of things.
I wound up using a 3/4" spade bit, 2 cables go through it just fine.

Thanks I was thinking a 50 cal would be about right, but man the rounds are expensive.

Depends. Depends on the number and size of wires that will end up using the hole. I used a couple different sizes. More important is the proper placement of the holes from the edges of the studs.

Assuming we are talking walls...

Exterior and load bearing walls, rules for holes and notches...

Non load bearing walls...
