Title: Anybody else getting ready for fall?
Post by: peternap on July 24, 2009, 02:55:56 PM
I poured another 400 pounds of lead ingots today. That's enough for a while. The rest goes in a barrel in the shed till I feel like getting the 50 pound pot out again.

This weekend I am going to cast hunting bullets. I just got a new Ranch Dog Mold for the 45/70/

I'm low on 45 cold ammo and I always need 45 ACP.

I'm going to cast some Lee improved Minnies for the 58 and some hard cast for the 308.

I just re sighted my crossbow after putting new cables and string on it and I've been loading shotgun shells in 12, 20 and 410 all week.

All my stands are up, and the deer and bear are active. Looks like I have plenty of rabbits and quail this year.

I have firewood cut, split and dry. BRING ON FALL ;D

Good grief.  We just got the snow off the mountain a month ago.  Can I have a few months of warmth first?

I guess it's never to early to plan; but I think you're pushing things Peter.  :-[

QuoteI just re sighted my crossbow after putting new cables and string on it...

Mine's sittin in the basement.  I need to restring it.

I live in town.  I jog a few miles, 5 nights a week.  I saw at least a dozen rabbits.  One was inside a person's fenced-in yard, another was joggin across the street.  The rest were randomly scrambling and looking confused.  I'm startin to think they're adopting our tendencies.  :D

I've got some trout smoked, some crappie filleted (yea, I don't scale 'em) and rice harvested.  Now my belly's holding the beer for winter...OK, at least for tonight.  Don't ask my bladder to store any though.   c*

If I lived in VA, I would be looking forward to fall.  It is warm there.  Fall feels great in VA, plus hunting season begins.  I don't live in VA.  I haven't gotten enough warmth, but I am looking forward to hunting season.

I'm not ready for fall yet, but for the first time in several years I'm actually looking forward to it instead of dreading it with a passion.  Last year, even though we were in OK, I still hadn't thawed out from the years in WI, but this year, bring it on... I look forward to the planning of next year's garden.  Even though this one was insanely productive considering how late I got started and everything, it wasn't nearly as well-thought-out or as organized as I would have liked it to be.  Also, I'll be glad when we can clear brush without being as likely to get poison ivy or snakebit.  However, I sure don't mind some more hot months, either.  Besides, we don't have our firewood split yet (some is cut, but not split.)

absolutely.  fall is hands down my favorite time of year.

the end of the super hot dog days of summer - especially as August usually puts up some 105-115 days.

the end of hurricane season.

football season starts

deer hunting starts

cool enough to do real work in the country.  during the fall I can work 10-12 hours at a nice pace, very unlike the summer when 4-5 is about it due to heat.

thanksgiving, with christmas to look forward to.  usually family down visiting somewhere.

did I mention deer hunting?

snuggling up under the covers with the wife on those first few cold snaps..  me complaining about her cold feet in bed.

kids back in school, happy to be seeing their friends again, Mom happy to have a break for a few hours a day.

and deer hunting.  nothing beats those fun stories we tell every year on opening weekend.  nothing beats a crisp cold November morning filled with excitement and awe.

That feeling is one of the few I have never lost.
Hunting season is magic. Killing game is secondary, it's the excitement of being there.

We've been having a great summer----the salmon are running and the moose. caribou and bears are getting fat!  Three months from now we will be riding snowmachines (alaskan for snowmobiles) and the sleddogs will be runnin!
