Title: Round Post to Joist Connection
Post by: stricsm on May 21, 2009, 06:43:17 AM
I'm adding several 4" round PT posts to our pier (dock) at our cabin and need to tie them in to the existing joists (2" X 6").  I'm adding them where the decking has been removed for access.  In the past, I've thru bolted them using galvanized hardware.  Does any one know if a Simpson Strongtie connector or similar exists to make this connection easier for me to make?  I've looked around but haven't been able to locate anything suitable.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

I not noticed any Simpson products designed for round posts.

Their catalog is available online...

You're probably getting out of Simpsons products and into Cleveland Steel, more timber type stuff. A spike grid would probably do it.

Cut a flat spot where the connection is and use a Simpson product.

I have found the T connectors to be quite versatile and in many ways more preferable than some of the saddle type connectors.  Heavier gauge metal.
