Title: Guess this widget and win a prize.
Post by: NM_Shooter on May 18, 2009, 09:57:43 PM
Okay, it probably does not classify as a widget as it has no moving parts.  Be that as it may, it is an apparatus that I built tonight in my little shop of horrors.

Tell me what this is and I'll send you a jar of El Pinto famous salsa.

BTW.... smart alec replies such as "an example of bad welding", "indication of a patient wife" will result in immediate disqualification.

Ready, set, go!

I large rack/rack extension for the back of a snowmobile that you won't be able to use until next winter when you find out that it could have been used on an atv, motorcycle and a small mule.  :)

I'll send you my address.

Ok... this will be a tough call.  Don was sort of correct, and he was first.  Whitlock was right on the money, but second.  The judges are conferring now.

Here's pix of it before final grinding and painting:

Stay tuned for the judges' final decision!

Would it help to say the craftsmanship is magnificent and the judges incredibly beautiful and intelligent?    :-\

Wait a second, after looking at the installed product, I'd have to say there is a better answer.  Loaded up, it would be a dirt bike wheelie maker.....

Now that Don has corrupted the judges.....

I'd really like to see some attachment details. ???

I have a little 125 that I've been scratching my head over for 6 months. Just doesn't seem like a good way to attach a rack.

Hey Peter, I'll try to get some pix posted after the cleanup.

The DRZ400S is built for two persons.  The rear frame extends into the fender well with tube steel.  Two bolts attach from the top into the tube steel.  Aft of that, the tail light assy is bolted onto the fender (no tube steel back there).

The side bars bolt onto two tabs that extend rearward from the frame.  I think they are specifically there to aid in mounting a rack, but I don't know.  I just made opportunistic use of the tabs as I found them.

Hmmmm, maybe next time you can place a common object in the picture so scale can be better understood. :)

Don't say that to a man with a gun!   :o   Actually it's a tough call; I was first but general, you were precise and just a little later, a matter of timing.

I can get an El Pinto fix by walking 10-15 steps to the kitchen.   :D   They make dang good salsa!

Pshew.  I'm back.  One of the judges had a birthday... between presents, dinner, motorcycle ride for the birthday girl, cake, and a minor problem with my trailer we got delayed.

Okay.. quit being magnanimous.  It won't help, as the judges decision is final, absolute, and non-appealable (I just made that last word up.  Feel free to use it).

You both win.

PM me an address and what flame level you want (mild, medium, hot), and I will get it in the mail!  (Don, I am going to deliver yours to your cabin via Suzuki / Kawasaki deliver.  Have chips ready  ;D)

Whitlock, this ain't no city salsa.  The medium is hotter than Pace Hot.  I find the El Pinto Hot to be uncomfortable.  http://www.elpinto.com/restaurant/

Woo Hoo!

I shall opt for the mild version.  :D

On the way to the mtns in the AM, and alas I know there are no chips packed;I'll have some on the next provisioning trip. Our plans are to be up their most of the summer; you're more than welcome any time. We do leave the pipe gate locked most of the time so it helps to know when guests are planning a visit, although it is only a quarter mile (but up, up, up) hike.

Did you get hammered with the rain tonight?  We were in church out on 528 when it hit.  Any issues with your road being washed out on the way to the cabin?

At home here we had a couple brief hard minutes, but no big deal.

The weather station 6 miles or so from the cabin registered about 1/4 inch between 4 nd 5 PM.

We never had an issue with access though we've been a little muddy once or twice. (one reason I don't like tires that extend beyond the fenders) Our hill has some potential for trouble, but even after the very heavy rains summer before last we had no trouble negotiating our way up/down. Of course 4wd was recommended.

The bigger potential for problems actually lies along hwy 4 north of red rocks (Wallatowa info center). The highway recieves heavy run off from the cliffs on the esat side. There are several spots where water and dirt/rocks across the road causes temporary blockages. Every time there is hard rain the highway yard in San Ysidro sends a plow truck up the highway to check on things.

They also make a superb green chili sauce that makes wonderful enchiladas.
